Child Obesity: Has it crossed the red line?

“My child is obese, or tends to be obese? That is ok. I can’t stop him from eating what he/she likes. He/She is still a child, in the end. What’s 6 or 20-years old? He/She has a whole life ahead to try & reach a more suitable age.”  This could be a common argument put forward by most parents. Yet, a pediatrician’s point of view is totally different. Is it really a simple issue? Can an obese child easily lose the excess weight with time? What are the rates of child obesity today? And is there an effective treatment?
